Augustinus, Aurelius:
Nulla est homini causa philosophandi, nisi vt beatus sit.
Text |
Quandoquidem nulla eſt homini cauſa philoſophandi, niſi vt beatus ſit; quod autem beatum facit, ipſe eſt finis boni; nulla eſt igitur cauſa philoſophandi, niſi finis boni: quamobrem quæ nullum boni finem ſectatur, nulla philosophiæ ſecta dicenda eſt. |
Translation |
Since there is no reason for man to philosophize, except that he may be happy; But that which makes one happy is itself the end of good. Therefore, there is no reason for philosophizing except the end of good: wherefore that which pursues no end of good is not to be called "pursuit of philosophy". |
