Naso, Publius Ovidius:
Quot cœlum stellas tot habet tua Roma puellas.

cit_00005

Text

Tot tibi tamque dabit formosas Roma puellas,
'Haec habet' ut dicas 'quicquid in orbe fuit.
Gargara quot segetes, quot habet Methymna racemos,
Aequore quot pisces, fronde teguntur aves,
Quot caelum stellas, tot habet tua Roma puellas:
(60) Mater in Aeneae constitit urbe sui.
Seu caperis primis et adhuc crescentibus annis,
Ante oculos veniet vera puella tuos;

Translation

Roma will grant you so much and such beautiful girls,
That you say: "It has what only existed on earth."
As much gargara wins grain and grapes methymna,
There are so many fish in the sea and birds in the leaves,
So many stars in the sky, that's how many girls your Roma has;
(60) Her Aeneas' city chose the mother for her seat.
May the first youth, not yet grown, captivate you,
You will see young girls who are real;
